  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tonka bean tonka bean, grated Grated for flavor
  • 1 packet unflavored gelatin (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
For garnishing
  • Popcorn For garnish
  • Additional toppings Optional (e.g., fresh fruits, chocolate shavings, caramel sauce)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, milk, sugar, and grated tonka bean. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
  2. In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over cold water and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  3. Once the cream mixture is hot, remove it from the heat and stir in the softened gelatin until dissolved.
  4. Pour the mixture into serving glasses or molds and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
Serving
  1. Before serving, pop the popcorn and use it as a garnish atop the panna cotta. Add any additional toppings if desired.

Notes

Make sure to heat the cream mixture gently to avoid boiling, which can affect the texture. Let the gelatin sit for the full 5 minutes to soften properly before adding it. Feel free to experiment with flavors by adding vanilla or citrus zest to the cream mixture. The panna cotta can be made a day or two in advance; just keep it covered in the refrigerator until serving.
