Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla.
  4. Alternately add the flour and heavy cream, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cake completely on a wire rack.
Assembly
  1. Slice the cooled cake horizontally to create layers.
  2. Spread whipped cream and layer fresh strawberries between the cake layers.
  3. Top with additional whipped cream and decorate with strawberries.

Notes

This dessert can be customized with different berries or flavors, such as adding lemon zest to the cream. Serve chilled for the best flavor.
