Method
 

  1. Grate the yellow squash, then place it in a clean towel and squeeze out as much water as possible.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the squash, chopped onion, egg, flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper until evenly combined.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Scoop spoonfuls of the mixture into the skillet and flatten gently.
  4. Cook for about 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

Notes
