  • 2 tablespoons broth or water For smothering.

  • 2 cloves garlic (minced) Optional for extra flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Can use smoked or sweet.
  • 1 tablespoon herbs (thyme, rosemary, or parsley) Use fresh or dried.
  • 1 cup bell peppers (sliced, optional) Adds color and sweetness.
  • 1 cup mushrooms (sliced, optional) Earthy flavor.
  • 1 cup smoked sausage or bacon (cooked and diced, optional) For a heartier dish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Wash and peel (if desired) the potatoes, then slice them evenly to about 1/4-inch thick.
  2. Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add sliced potatoes to the skillet, arranging them in a single layer if possible.
Cooking
  1. Cook the potatoes undisturbed for a few minutes to develop a golden crust, then gently flip them.
  2. Reduce heat to low, add broth or water, and season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.
  3. Cover tightly and let cook for 15-20 minutes, checking occasionally until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Notes

For best results, do not overcrowd the pan. You can experiment with various toppings and seasonings to create different flavor profiles.
