Method
Preparation
- Preheat a griddle or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into equal portions and season with salt and pepper.
Cooking
- Place each portion on the hot griddle and use a spatula to smash the beef into a thin patty.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes until a crisp crust forms, then flip and cook the other side to your desired doneness.
- Optionally, place a slice of cheese on top during the last minute of cooking.
Making the Sauce
- While the burgers cook, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder in a small bowl to make the easy sauce.
Assembly
- Toast the burger buns on the griddle.
- Assemble the smash burgers by spreading the easy sauce on the bun, adding the patty, and any additional toppings you prefer.
Notes
To store leftovers, place the cooked patties in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Keep the sauce in a separate container. Reheat the patties in a skillet or microwave before serving again. Don’t skip smashing the patty; it gives a nice crust. Experiment with different toppings and sauces to find your favorite combination.
