Ingredients
  

For the patties
  • 1 lb 80/20 ground beef Higher fat content for juiciness
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 pieces brioche buns Can substitute with other burger buns
For the toppings
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp pickle juice
  • lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, onions To customize the burger

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your grill or skillet to medium-high heat.
  2. In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and pickle juice to create the secret sauce.
  3. Form the ground beef into four loose balls and season generously with salt and pepper.
Cooking
  1. Place each ball on the hot grill or skillet and smash down firmly to form patties. Cook for about 3 minutes until crispy edges form.
  2. Flip the patties and immediately top each with a slice of cheese; cook for an additional minute until melted.
Assembly
  1. Assemble burgers by spreading secret sauce on both sides of brioche buns and layering with patties and desired toppings.

Notes

Serve your smash burgers hot off the grill with extra secret sauce on the side. Pair with crispy fries or a simple salad. To store leftovers, keep patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze uncooked patties for future meals.
