Ingredients
  

Dough ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet instant yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 3/4 cups warm water Make sure it is warm but not hot.
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
Topping ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon fine sea salt For topping
  • Fresh herbs (rosemary or thyme, optional) Can be omitted or substituted.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and instant yeast together.
  2. Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Grease a baking sheet with olive oil.
  6. Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet and spread it out evenly with your hands.
  7. Dimple the surface of the dough with your fingers and drizzle with olive oil.
  8. Sprinkle with fine sea salt and herbs if using.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
  2. Let cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

To store leftover focaccia, place it in an airtight container or wrap it in plastic wrap. Keep at room temperature for up to two days or freeze for up to three months. For a crispier crust, place a shallow pan of water in the oven while baking.
