Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder Unsweetened cocoa powder works best.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring Use gel food coloring for better results.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Rolling
  • as needed none Powdered sugar For coating the cookie balls.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the vegetable oil and sugar together until well combined. Stir in the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  6. Scoop out tablespoon-sized amounts of dough, roll into balls, and coat in powdered sugar.
  7. Place the coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  2. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serving
  1. Serve warm or at room temperature, and store in an airtight container.
