  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter softened
  • 0.75 cups milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pink food coloring Use gel for brighter color

  • Buttercream frosting for frosting the cake
  • Edible butterflies for decoration

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bento-style cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add in the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until fully combined.
  5. Divide the batter and tint one portion with pink food coloring.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cake to cool before frosting with buttercream.
  3. Decorate with edible butterflies to complete the bento cake.

Notes

Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. Refrigerate for up to a week, but bring to room temperature before serving. Consider adding lemon zest or almond extract for a different flavor profile.
