Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bento-style cake pan.
- In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add in the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until fully combined.
- Divide the batter and tint one portion with pink food coloring.
Baking
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool before frosting with buttercream.
- Decorate with edible butterflies to complete the bento cake.
Notes
Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. Refrigerate for up to a week, but bring to room temperature before serving. Consider adding lemon zest or almond extract for a different flavor profile.
