Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced Fresh mushrooms are recommended.
  • 1 onion, chopped Preferably yellow or white onion.
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped Any color bell pepper works.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic cloves for better flavor.
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded Can substitute with other cheeses.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Adds depth of flavor.
  • 4 hamburger buns Can use hoagie rolls for an authentic touch.
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil For sautéing the vegetables.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Adjust according to preference.

Method

Sauté the Vegetables
  1. In a skillet, heat about 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, stirring occasionally. Sauté them for about 5-7 minutes until they are softened and the onions are translucent.
Add Mushrooms and Garlic
  1. Stir in the sliced mushrooms and minced garlic, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until fragrant and the mushrooms are slightly tender.
Brown the Beef
  1. Add the ground beef into the skillet. Break it up with a spatula as it cooks, stirring frequently. Cook until it’s nicely browned, around 5-7 minutes. Make sure there’s no pink left in the meat.
Season the Mixture
  1. Incorporate the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir well to combine all the flavors, allowing them to meld for a minute.
Melt the Cheese
  1. Once everything is well mixed, remove the skillet from heat, then add the shredded provolone cheese. Fold gently until melted and evenly distributed throughout the beef mixture.
Assemble the Sandwiches
  1. Spoon generous amounts of the cheesy beef mixture into the hamburger buns. Serve warm.

Notes

Serve with a side of crispy fries or a fresh salad. For a touch of elegance, garnish with fresh parsley or extra cheese. Can prepare ahead of time and store in the fridge.
