Ingredients

Burger Patties
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika or smoked paprika
Cabbage Buns
  • 1 head green cabbage cut into 3/4-inch slices
  • 2 tbsp olive oil for brushing
  • 1/2 tsp salt for seasoning cabbage
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper for seasoning cabbage
Optional Toppings
  • 4 slices cheese your choice
  • 4 tbsp tomato sauce

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange the cabbage slices on the prepared baking sheet. Brush both sides with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Roast the cabbage slices in the oven for 10 minutes to soften slightly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix until well combined.
  5. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  6. Remove the cabbage from the oven. Place a tablespoon of tomato sauce on each cabbage slice, then top with a beef patty and a slice of cheese if using. Cover with another cabbage slice to form a 'bun.'
  7. Return the assembled burgers to the oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the cheese is melted.
  8. Optional: Broil for an additional 2-3 minutes for a crispier top.
  9. Serve hot with your favorite sides or sauces.

Notes

Feel free to customize the patties by adding herbs or spices of your choice. For a vegetarian version, substitute the ground meat with a plant-based alternative. These burgers are great for meal prep and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
