  • 1 bottle bottle of red wine (750 ml) Choose a fruity red like Merlot or Cabernet.
  • 2 cups apple cider Adds a sweet and tangy punch.
  • 1/4 cup brandy Adds a touch of warmth.
Fruits & Spices
  • 1 orange, sliced Fresh citrus brightens the flavors.
  • 1 lemon, sliced Adds a zesty kick.
  • 3-4 star anise Adds flavor and enhances appearance.
  • 3-4 whole cloves Warm and aromatic.
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks Brings comforting warmth.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large pot, combine the red wine, apple cider, and brandy.
  2. Add the sliced orange and lemon, star anise, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and sugar. Stir gently.
  3. Heat over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  4. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for at least 15 minutes.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary.
  6. Strain and serve warm in mugs, garnished with additional orange slices and a cinnamon stick.

Notes

For best flavor, let it simmer longer if you have time. Use clear mugs to show off the beautiful color.
