Method
 

Preparation
  1. Peel and chop sweet potatoes into equal-sized chunks (about 1–2 inches).
Cooking
  1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add sweet potato chunks. Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  2. Carefully drain the sweet potatoes and return them to the pot.
Mashing
  1. Add the butter, milk, salt, pepper, and optional ingredients to the sweet potatoes.
  2. Mash until you achieve a smooth and creamy texture.
Serving
  1. Scoop the mashed sweet potatoes into a serving dish and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, chop sweet potatoes uniformly for even cooking. Taste as you go, and adjust seasoning as necessary. You can freeze leftovers for up to 2–3 months and reheat on the stovetop or in the oven.
