  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 slices American cheese Or cheese of your choice for variations
  • 4 pieces brioche burger buns Toasted for better flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into four equal portions, each about 4 oz, and roll them into loose balls.
  3. Season each ball generously with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Cooking
  1. Place one beef ball on the hot surface and smash it down to about half an inch thick using a heavy spatula. Repeat this step for the remaining beef balls.
  2. Cook the smashed patties for about 2 minutes until the edges are crispy. Then, top each patty with a slice of American cheese.
Assembly
  1. Assemble your smash burgers on toasted brioche buns with lettuce, tomato, onion, and any additional toppings you prefer.

Notes
