Preparation
- Season the pork chops with salt and black pepper.
Cooking
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add a bit of oil, then place the seasoned pork chops in the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
- Remove the pork chops from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook until soft, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the sliced apple to the skillet and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Stir in the apple butter, water, and whole grain mustard. Cook for a few minutes until the mixture is well combined and slightly thickened.
- Return the pork chops to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Let them simmer in the sauce for about 5 minutes.
- If using, add the rosemary and sage during the last couple of minutes of cooking to add extra flavor.
Serving
- Serve the pork chops warm with a generous amount of the apple butter sauce poured over the top. Pair with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
Notes
Make sure to let the pork chops rest for a few minutes before slicing to keep them juicy. Adjust the consistency of the sauce as needed with additional water if using thicker apple butter. Feel free to add spices like garlic powder or paprika for enhanced flavor. Variations include using different apple varieties or adding a splash of apple cider vinegar for tanginess.
