Hot Chocolate Base
  • 2 cups milk Whole milk is recommended for a richer flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
Toppings
  • Whipped cream or marshmallows Optional, for serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a small saucepan, combine cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add 1/4 cup of milk and stir until smooth.
  3. Gradually whisk in the remaining milk.
  4. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until hot but not boiling.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream or marshmallows if desired.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use whole milk or add a splash of cream. You can mix in cinnamon or peppermint for a twist.
