Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar For a tangier flavor, substitute with white vinegar.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Can substitute with granulated sugar and molasses if unavailable.
  • 1/4 cup honey Can be replaced with maple syrup for a unique flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika Mix with chipotle powder for added smokiness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and honey. Stir well until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Add Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper to the pot. Mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  4. Let it cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  5. Once the sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, remove it from the heat.
  6. Taste for seasoning and adjust if necessary.
  7. Let the sauce cool to room temperature before transferring it to a jar or airtight container.

Notes

Store your homemade BBQ sauce in an airtight container or a glass jar in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. For long-term storage, this sauce can be frozen for up to three months. Allow it to cool completely before freezing. The flavor improves after a day in the fridge, making it ideal for make-ahead preparations.
