- In a large skillet over medium-low heat, add the butter, heavy cream, and cream cheese (if using). Stir continuously for about 2 minutes until the mixture has fully melted and starts to lightly simmer.
- Whisk in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning (if desired), salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Reduce the heat to low and gradually add the shredded Parmesan cheese. Continue whisking for about 3-5 minutes, until the cheese has melted completely and the sauce looks smooth and creamy.
- Serve immediately over your favorite pasta, optionally sprinkle some nutmeg on top before enjoying.
