Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound lean ground beef Use lean ground beef to keep the dish healthier and reduce excess grease.
  • 4 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) Adjust the spice level according to your preference.
  • 10 ounces noodles (linguine, fettuccine, or spaghetti) Use any type of noodles based on preference.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water For dissolving cornstarch.
  • 4 medium green onions, sliced For garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet with high sides, brown the ground beef on the stovetop.
  2. Add the ginger and garlic in the last 2 minutes of browning.
  3. While the ground beef is cooking, cook the pasta according to the package instructions without salting the water. Drain the pasta.
Cooking
  1. After draining the beef, return it to the skillet and add soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and hoisin sauce. Stir to combine.
  2. Dissolve cornstarch in water and add it to the beef mixture. Stir and bring to a low boil.
  3. After the sauce thickens, add the drained noodles and stir to combine.
  4. Let the noodles sit in the sauce for a few minutes to absorb flavor.
Serving
  1. Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions.

Notes

This dish pairs well with a simple salad or steamed vegetables. For a lighter version, replace ground beef with ground turkey or chicken and use whole wheat noodles.
