  • 1 stick 1 stick (4 ounces/8 tablespoons) unsalted butter Melted
  • 2/3 cup 2/3 cup granulated sugar, plus extra for rolling For rolling
  • 2 large 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3-5 drops 3 to 5 drops green food gel coloring Add more for brighter cookies
  • 1 1/4 cup 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
  • 12 12 red heart sprinkles For decoration

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use a silicone mat.
  2. Melt the butter in a mixing bowl, then stir in the sugar, egg yolks, vanilla extract, and green food coloring. Mix well to combine.
  3. Sprinkle the all purpose flour, baking soda, and fine salt evenly over the dough. Stir just enough to combine the dry ingredients.
  4. Press the dough flat in the bowl and then divide it in half. Roll each half into 6 dough balls and coat them in granulated sugar.
  5. Space the cookies evenly on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 11 minutes until they spread and crackle.
  6. Quickly press a red heart sprinkle into each cookie while they are still warm.
  7. Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool.

Notes

These cookies keep for up to 5 days at room temperature in an airtight container and can also be frozen.
