Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use a silicone mat.
- Melt the butter in a mixing bowl, then stir in the sugar, egg yolks, vanilla extract, and green food coloring. Mix well to combine.
- Sprinkle the all purpose flour, baking soda, and fine salt evenly over the dough. Stir just enough to combine the dry ingredients.
- Press the dough flat in the bowl and then divide it in half. Roll each half into 6 dough balls and coat them in granulated sugar.
- Space the cookies evenly on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 11 minutes until they spread and crackle.
- Quickly press a red heart sprinkle into each cookie while they are still warm.
- Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool.
Notes
These cookies keep for up to 5 days at room temperature in an airtight container and can also be frozen.
