Preparation
- Slice the challah bread into 1/2 or 3/4 inch slices, yielding 8 slices for 4 sandwiches.
Grilling
- In a wide nonstick skillet, heat about 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-low heat until melted.
- Place 2 slices of bread in the melted butter, ensuring both sides soak up the butter.
- On one slice, layer 2 thick slices of cheddar cheese, then top with the other slice of bread, butter side up.
- Add 2 strips of cooked bacon over the cheese.
- Sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of shredded cheese on top of the bacon.
- Melt another 1/2 tablespoon of butter in the pan.
- Carefully flip the sandwich over onto the melted butter, with cheese and bacon on the bottom.
- Cook on medium-low for 3-4 minutes until crispy.
- Add another 2 tablespoons of shredded cheese on top.
- Flip the sandwich so that the cheese side is down and cook until crispy, about another 3-4 minutes.
- Repeat the process with remaining ingredients until all sandwiches are grilled.
Notes
Serve hot with sides like tomato soup or salad. For added crunch, include pickles or chips.
