Ingredients
  

Cupcake Batter
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cups milk
Filling
  • as needed drops food coloring (pink or blue) For coloring the filling
  • as needed filling of choice (buttercream, whipped cream, or fruit preserves) Colored to match the baby's gender

Method
 

Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Let the cupcakes cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
Filling
  1. Once cooled, use a small knife or cupcake corer to remove the center from each cupcake.
  2. Prepare your filling with the food coloring, then spoon it into each hollowed cupcake center.
  3. Replace the top portion of cake to conceal the filling.
Decoration
  1. Frost the cupcakes with a thick layer of neutral-colored frosting to hide the filling.
  2. Decorate with themed decorations like edible glitter or custom toppers.
