Sandwich Construction
  • 4 slices bread Any type: sourdough, whole grain, or classic white.
  • 4 slices cheese (such as cheddar or Swiss) The melty cheese is essential.
  • 1 tablespoon additional butter, for grilling Ensures a golden-brown crust.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sliced mushrooms, cooking for 5 to 7 minutes until softened.
  2. Season with salt and pepper and remove the mixture from the skillet.
Grilling
  1. In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of additional butter for grilling and let it melt.
  2. Layer a slice of bread in the skillet, top with a slice of cheese, the mushroom mixture, another slice of cheese, and finish with another slice of bread.
  3. Grill for about 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  4. Slice the grilled cheese in half and serve hot.

Notes

Keep an eye on the heat to avoid burning. For variations, add spinach, red peppers, or try different cheese combinations. Pair with tomato soup or a salad.
