Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups cabbage, shredded This is the heart of the dish! You can prepare it fresh or pre-shredded for ease.
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined Look for wild-caught shrimp for the best flavor. Frozen shrimp is fine but thaw ahead of time.
  • 1 piece sausage, sliced Italian or smoked sausage works well for added depth.
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped Adds that irresistible smoky flavor.
  • 1 piece onion, chopped Fresh onions create a wonderful base; opt for yellow or sweet varieties.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Elevates the overall flavor.
  • to taste salt and pepper Essential for bringing all the ingredients to life.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Can substitute with avocado oil if desired.
  • optional red pepper flakes Add for spice per your taste.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving drippings in the skillet.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the sliced sausage, allowing it to brown for about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the shredded cabbage and cook for about 5-7 minutes, until wilted and absorbing flavors.
  5. Toss in the shrimp and cook until pink and juicy, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste.
  7. Fold in the crispy bacon and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider a splash of Worcestershire sauce. Don’t crowd the skillet; cook in batches if needed. Adjust cooking time for shrimp based on size. Leftovers can be stored for 3-4 days and can be turned into an omelet or soup.
