  • 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil Use your preference for a different flavor.
  • 2 medium yellow onions, sliced Yellow onions provide the best flavor for caramelization.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups sour cream Greek yogurt can be used as a lighter option.
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh chives Fresh herbs enhance the flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley Fresh herbs are recommended.
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste Adjust according to your preference.
  • Optional: a splash of Worcestershire sauce for richer flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Heat the butter or oil in a large sauté pan on medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and stir for 2 minutes, then reduce the heat to low.
  3. Continue stirring every 2 to 3 minutes for about 45 minutes, or until the onions are caramelized. If the onions stick to the pan, add a splash of water.
  4. Once caramelized, transfer the onions to a bowl and refrigerate to cool.
  5. After cooling, chop the onions.
Mixing
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooled onions with sour cream, mayonnaise, chives, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  2. Stir well until creamy and serve.

Notes

Serve cold with your favorite dippers like chips or vegetables. Adjust seasoning as needed.
