Preparation
- Heat the butter or oil in a large sauté pan on medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and stir for 2 minutes, then reduce the heat to low.
- Continue stirring every 2 to 3 minutes for about 45 minutes, or until the onions are caramelized. If the onions stick to the pan, add a splash of water.
- Once caramelized, transfer the onions to a bowl and refrigerate to cool.
- After cooling, chop the onions.
Mixing
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cooled onions with sour cream, mayonnaise, chives, parsley, salt, and pepper.
- Stir well until creamy and serve.
Notes
Serve cold with your favorite dippers like chips or vegetables. Adjust seasoning as needed.
