Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups powdered sugar Use high-quality for best results
  • 3 tablespoons meringue powder Can substitute with pasteurized egg whites
  • 6 tablespoons water Adjust for desired icing consistency
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Can substitute with other flavor extracts
  • Food coloring (optional) Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar and meringue powder.
  2. Add the water and vanilla extract to the bowl.
  3. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed until the icing forms stiff peaks, about 7-10 minutes.
  4. If desired, divide the icing into separate bowls and add food coloring to achieve desired colors.
  5. Use the icing immediately to decorate cookies or store it in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
  6. For flooding consistency, add a little bit of water until the icing flows easily.

Notes

To prevent icing from drying out, keep a damp towel over it when not in use. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
