Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature Ensure the butter is at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ teaspoon almond extract Can be substituted with vanilla extract.
Toppings
  • Decorative icing and sprinkles For toppings.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it's ready for baking.
  2. Prepare the Dough: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until fully blended. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. The dough should be thick enough to hold its shape.
  4. Shape the Cookies: Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten them slightly with the bottom of a glass for even baking.
Baking
  1. Bake to Perfection: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove them when they are firm but still soft in the center.
  2. Cool and Decorate: Allow the cookies to cool for a couple of minutes on the sheet before transferring them to a wire rack. Once fully cooled, decorate with your favorite icing and sprinkles for that festive touch!
