Method
- Combine warm milk, sugar, yeast, and cocoa powder. Let it sit until foamy.
- Add flour, egg, salt, and butter. Knead until smooth and tacky.
- Cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour until doubled.
- Roll out dough to ½-inch thick and cut with a donut cutter.
- Place on parchment and let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Melt chocolate and cream for ganache. Dip each donut and sprinkle gold dust while still wet.
Notes
Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature. Edible rose petals or crushed pistachios make excellent alternatives to gold dust.
