  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey for a healthier option.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups uncooked lasagna noodles, broken into pieces No-boil noodles can also be used for easier preparation.
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust seasoning to taste.
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • to garnish Fresh basil For serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Transfer the mixture to the crockpot. Add crushed tomatoes, beef broth, tomato sauce, broken lasagna noodles, dried basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  2. About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the mozzarella and ricotta cheese.
  3. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
Serving
  1. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil.

Notes

Pairs nicely with crusty bread or a simple side salad. Use lean ground beef or turkey for a healthier option. You can add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra nutrition. For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
