Cheese Layer
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Adds a sharp flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Generously butter your baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, fresh herbs, salt, and pepper until combined.
Layering
  1. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish.
  2. Pour half of the creamy mixture over the potatoes.
  3. Sprinkle half of your chosen shredded cheeses over the potatoes.
  4. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and rest of the cheese.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  3. Allow the dish to cool for a few minutes before serving.

For best results, slice potatoes uniformly and take time during layering. This dish is versatile; feel free to experiment with herbs and cheeses.
