  • 1 loaf loaf of bread (French or challah) Use stale bread for best results.
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened Allow to come to room temperature.
  • 1 cup strawberries, chopped Fresh strawberries work best.
  • 6 large eggs Room temperature preferred.
  • 2 cups milk Any kind of milk can be used.
  • 1/2 cup sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • as needed Butter (for greasing) Generously grease the baking dish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the loaf of bread into evenly sized cubes and place half in the baking dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese with chopped strawberries and spread over the first layer of bread.
  4. Top with remaining bread cubes to create a second layer.
Custard Preparation
  1. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  2. Pour the custard over the layered bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
Refrigeration and Baking
  1. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. Remove cover and bake for 40-45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
Serving
  1. Slice and serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar or drizzled with maple syrup.

Notes

Serve warm for best flavor. Consider pairing with crispy bacon or fresh whipped cream.
