Preparation
- Preheat your skillet or griddle over medium-high heat (about 375°F).
- Divide the ground beef into equal portions, about 4 ounces each, and shape them gently into balls.
- Place a ball of beef on the skillet and press firmly with a spatula until it’s about 1/2 inch thick.
- Season generously with salt and pepper while the patty begins to cook.
Cooking
- Cook for about 3-4 minutes until a rich, golden crust forms on one side.
- Flip the burger and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Optional: Add cheese on top during the last minute of cooking to melt perfectly over the patty.
- Toast the hamburger buns on the skillet for a few minutes until golden brown.
Assembly
- Assemble your burger by spreading the homemade sauce on the bottom bun, adding the smashed patty, and topping it with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles as desired.
- Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
To store leftovers, place them in an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator for up to three days. If freezing, layer uncooked patties with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
