Ingredients

For the pie crust
  • 1 package Pie Dough (homemade or store-bought)
For the filling
  • 2 cans Apple Pie Filling (or 7-8 cups homemade sliced apples mixed with flour, sugar, and cinnamon) Homemade option recommended for best flavor.
  • ½ cup Light-Brown Sugar or Granulated Sugar Sweeten to taste.
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon Adjust according to preference.
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
For the cinnamon roll topping
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter (melted)
  • 1 large Egg (whisked) For egg wash.
  • 2 tablespoons Turbinado Sugar For sprinkling on top.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out your pie dough and place it in a pie pan. Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges.
  3. In a bowl, mix the apple pie filling (or your homemade apples) with sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour this mixture into the prepared pie crust.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir until well mixed.
  5. Pour this mixture over the apple filling, making sure to cover it evenly.
  6. Brush the edges of the pie crust with the whisked egg. This will give it a nice golden color when baking.
  7. Sprinkle the turbinado sugar on top of the pie for added crunch.
Baking
  1. Place the pie in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  2. Let the pie cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Best served warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For added flavor, drizzle caramel sauce on top. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer storage. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
