Dough Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk Warm but not hot
  • 1/4 cup water Warm but not hot
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter Melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon Optional
  • 1 egg for egg wash

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix 1 cup of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a saucepan, heat milk, water, and butter until warm; stir this mixture into the flour.
  3. Beat in the eggs and gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a large circle.
  7. Cut into star shapes and stack layers with any fillings you desire.
  8. Let it rise again for 30 minutes after shaping.
  9. Brush the top with egg wash.
Baking
  1. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Store any leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to a month.
