Ingredients
  

For the crust
  • 1.5 cups crushed pecans Pecans can be toasted for added flavor.
  • 1 cup butter, melted
For the cream cheese layer
  • 1 cup cream cheese Make sure to beat thoroughly to avoid lumps.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
For the pudding layer
  • 2 cups chocolate pudding mix Use instant mix for quicker preparation.
  • 4 cups milk Combine with pudding mix until thickened.
For topping
  • 2 cups whipped topping Can substitute with homemade whipped cream.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed pecans and melted butter. Press the mixture into the bottom of a baking dish to form a crust.
  3. Bake for 10 minutes and let it cool.
Cream Cheese Layer
  1. In another bowl, beat together the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  2. Spread this mixture over the cooled pecan crust.
Pudding Layer
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding mix and milk until it thickens.
  2. Pour it over the cream cheese layer.
Assembly
  1. Top the dessert with whipped topping and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until it sets.
Serving
  1. Serve chilled, cut into squares and garnish with extra whipped topping or chocolate shavings if desired.
