Preparation
  1. Gather all necessary ingredients: cocoa powder, sugar, flour, milk, butter, and vanilla extract.
  2. Prepare a medium-sized saucepan, whisk, and measuring cups and spoons.
Cooking Process
  1. Combine cocoa powder, sugar, and flour in the saucepan and whisk until there are no lumps.
  2. Gradually add milk, about half a cup at a time, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously as the mixture heats until it thickens to a gravy-like consistency.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
