  • 0.5 teaspoon sesame oil Adds a nutty finish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, Chinese five-spice powder, and sesame oil.
  3. Place chicken thighs in a large resealable plastic bag and pour half of the marinade over the chicken. Seal and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  4. Take the chicken out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place chicken thighs on the sheet and bake for about 25-30 minutes.
  2. While chicken cooks, transfer the reserved marinade to a small saucepan, bring to a boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened.
  3. Brush the baked chicken with the thickened marinade and broil for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  4. Remove from the oven and let rest for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

For more flavor, let the chicken marinate longer. Skin can be left on for extra crispy bites. Adjust sweetness with soy sauce if necessary.
