Ingredients

For the Hot Chocolate
  • 2 cups milk Any kind of milk will do. Whole milk gives a creamier texture, but almond or oat milk can add a fun twist.
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder Opt for unsweetened cocoa powder for a rich chocolate flavor without extra sugar.
  • 3 tablespoons sugar Sweetness is key; adjust according to your preference. Brown sugar adds a lovely caramel depth!
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom This spice brings a beautifully fragrant warmth; it’s chai’s secret charm.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves A little goes a long way! These add a warm, slightly sweet, and tangy note.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger Fresh ginger can also work wonders if you want a zesty kick!
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate Chopped or chips; the darker, the better for a luscious richness.
  • whipped cream Optional, for topping. Feel free to get fancy with it!

Method

Preparation
  1. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it’s warm but not boiling.
  2. Whisk in the cocoa powder, sugar, cardamom, cloves, and ginger until well combined and smooth.
  3. Add the dark chocolate and continue to stir until melted and fully incorporated.
  4. Remove from heat and pour into mugs.
  5. Top with whipped cream if desired, and serve warm. Drizzle chocolate syrup or sprinkle extra spices for presentation.

Notes

Use a whisk for smoother blending and customize sweetness and spice levels to match your mood. For extra creaminess, try adding cream or Nutella. Can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
