Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss together the cubed butternut squash and sliced apples.
  3. Sprinkle in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well to coat every piece.
  4. Transfer the mixture into a baking dish evenly.
  5. Dot the top with bits of butter and sprinkle with chopped pecans if using.
  6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  7. Serve warm for the best experience.

Notes

You can prep the squash and apples a day ahead. Store in an airtight container. This dish lasts 3-4 days in the fridge. For freezing, let it cool, then store in an airtight container for 2-3 months.
