Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a pot, combine blackberries, sugar, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring gently until the blackberries break down and the mixture thickens into a syrup.
- In a bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter using fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in vanilla and gradually add cold water to form a soft, pliable dough.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut out spider shapes with cookie cutters.
- Place the shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and fill the centers with a dollop of blackberry syrup.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the edges are golden.
- Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Chill the dough for easier rolling if it's too soft, and use fresh blackberries for the best flavor.
