  • 1 cup milk
  • 3.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fondant Decorations
  • White fondant
  • Red fondant
  • Black fondant
  • Yellow fondant
  • Food coloring (pink or red for the cheeks)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the milk and vanilla to the butter mixture, and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until smooth.
  6. Split the batter evenly between the two pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Let the cakes cool completely before removing them from the pans.
Decoration
  1. Once cooled, slice off the top of each cake to make them level.
  2. Stack the two cakes on top of each other with frosting in between.
  3. Cover the entire cake with a thin layer of frosting to create a crumb coat.
  4. Roll out the white fondant and cover the cake smoothly.
  5. Use the colored fondant to make Hello Kitty’s bow, eyes, and whiskers.
  6. Add the details to finish your Bento Cake Hello Kitty.

Notes

Make sure your butter is soft for easier mixing. Use a cake leveler to ensure your cake layers are even. If the fondant is too dry, knead in some vegetable shortening for a smoother texture.
