Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the milk and vanilla to the butter mixture, and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until smooth.
- Split the batter evenly between the two pans.
Baking
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool completely before removing them from the pans.
Decoration
- Once cooled, slice off the top of each cake to make them level.
- Stack the two cakes on top of each other with frosting in between.
- Cover the entire cake with a thin layer of frosting to create a crumb coat.
- Roll out the white fondant and cover the cake smoothly.
- Use the colored fondant to make Hello Kitty’s bow, eyes, and whiskers.
- Add the details to finish your Bento Cake Hello Kitty.

Make sure your butter is soft for easier mixing. Use a cake leveler to ensure your cake layers are even. If the fondant is too dry, knead in some vegetable shortening for a smoother texture.
