Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 1 cup Beef tallow Use high-quality, grass-fed beef tallow for best results.
Essential Oils
  • 50 drops Essential oils (optional) 50 drops per 1/2 cup of lotion for a single scent, or up to 100 drops per jar for individual scents.

Method

Preparation
  1. Portion out at least one cup of beef tallow.
  2. Melt the tallow in a cooking pot to room temperature until it becomes a transparent golden liquid. No need to heat, just melt.
  3. Once melted, remove from heat and pour into a mixing bowl. Let it sit on the counter for 1+ hour until it firms up, becoming whiter, thicker, and goopier, similar to applesauce consistency, but not fully solidified.
Whipping
  1. Using a hand mixer, whip the tallow on a high setting until it reaches a lotion texture.
  2. If using one scent, add 50 drops of essential oils for every 1/2 cup of lotion to the whole batch and mix well. If making individual batches with different scents, pour the lotion (without essential oils) into amber glass jars, add up to 100 drops of essential oils to each jar, and use bamboo sticks to mix thoroughly.
Storage
  1. Store the lotion in glass jars, preferably amber if essential oils were added. Keep the jars tightly sealed.

Notes

For a lighter texture, consider mixing in a bit of coconut oil or shea butter. You can add natural colorants or additional ingredients like vitamin E oil for extra nourishment. Experiment with different essential oil blends to find your favorite scent.
