Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour For an extra thick cookie, avoid packing the flour too tightly.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda Ensure it’s fresh for optimal rise.
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt A little salt enhances the sweetness.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature Cold butter can compromise the texture.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar Provides sweetness and helps with the crispiness.
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar Gives it that rich, chewy texture.
  • 2 large eggs Add them at room temperature for better incorporation.
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract For that classic cookie flavor.
Add-ins
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips Feel free to mix in dark chocolate or even nuts!

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Allowing your oven to preheat ensures even baking.
  2. Prepare your baking sheets by lining two with parchment paper or silicone mats to prevent sticking.
Mixing Dough
  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt until they become light and fluffy—about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add each egg one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated—be careful not to overmix.
  5. Use a spatula to gently fold the chocolate chips into the dough.
Baking
  1. Use a cookie scoop (about 2 tablespoons) to drop dough balls onto prepared sheets, ensuring enough space between them.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown while the centers remain soft.
  3. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Serve these cookies warm, paired with milk or ice cream, and feel free to add sea salt or festive sprinkles for a special touch. Store in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
