  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Ensure proper measuring to avoid dense donuts.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon For flavor enhancement.
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce Can substitute with flavored applesauce.
  • 1/2 cup milk Use plant-based milk for vegan option.
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil Can be substituted with melted coconut oil.
  • 1 large egg Substitute with flax egg for vegan.
  • 1 cup diced apples Fresh apples work best.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
Topping
  • 1/2 cup cinnamon sugar For coating after baking.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg) until well blended.
  3. In another bowl, combine the wet ingredients (applesauce, milk, oil, and egg) and whisk until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
  5. Fold in the diced apples.
Baking
  1. Grease your donut pan with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Fill each cavity about 2/3 full with the batter.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Allow the donuts to cool in the pan before transferring them to a wire rack.
Serving
  1. While still warm, dip each donut in melted butter, then roll it in cinnamon sugar.
  2. Serve warm with coffee, apple cider, or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. Freeze for up to three months.
