Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg) until well blended.
- In another bowl, combine the wet ingredients (applesauce, milk, oil, and egg) and whisk until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
- Fold in the diced apples.
Baking
- Grease your donut pan with butter or cooking spray.
- Fill each cavity about 2/3 full with the batter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow the donuts to cool in the pan before transferring them to a wire rack.
Serving
- While still warm, dip each donut in melted butter, then roll it in cinnamon sugar.
- Serve warm with coffee, apple cider, or vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. Freeze for up to three months.
