Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch cake pan.
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, spices, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped apples and nuts (if using) with gentle motions.
- Pour the batter into your prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar or caramel sauce. Leftovers can be toasted for breakfast or made into a parfait.
