Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced For extra flavor, use a mix of different mushrooms.
Liquids and Seasonings
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 cup bread crumbs

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion until the meat is fully cooked.
  3. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook until tender.
  4. Stir in the beef broth, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Assembly
  1. In a baking dish, layer the cooked beef mixture.
  2. Top with bread crumbs and then layer the mashed potatoes on top.
  3. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top if desired.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until heated through and the top is golden brown.
  2. Serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, use a mix of different mushrooms. Experiment with different seasonings like garlic powder or onion powder for added taste. If you prefer a crunchier top, broil the dish for a few minutes after baking to achieve a golden finish. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
