Ingredients

For the Apple Fries
  • 2 large large apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith) Choose firm apples to ensure they hold their shape during cooking.
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat or gluten-free flour.
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Experiment with spices like nutmeg or ginger for variety.
  • Nonstick cooking spray For air frying.

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel the apples if you like. Then, cut them into fry-like sticks. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
Coating
  1. Set up coating stations: Bowl 1: Add flour. Bowl 2: Whisk the egg and milk together. Bowl 3: Mix the panko breadcrumbs, sugar, and cinnamon.
  2. Dredge each apple stick in the flour, dip it into the egg mixture, and then coat it well with the breadcrumb mixture.
Cooking
  1. Lightly spray the coated apple fries with nonstick spray. Place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer (work in batches if needed).
  2. Air fry at 380°F (190°C) for 7–9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until they are golden and crispy.
Serving
  1. Enjoy warm with caramel dip, yogurt, or whipped cream.

Notes

If you have any leftovers, store the apple fries in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They are best eaten fresh but can last for up to 2 days. To reheat, place them back in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain their crispness.
